Location: The Studio of Delyth Williams & Parrog, Newport, Pembrokeshire

(intimate, guided creative experience with individual support throughout)

The Experience

Studio introduction & observation (Morning)

We begin in the studio with a relaxed introduction to the day before walking together down to Parrog to work directly in the coastal landscape.

Through gentle, guided exercises you will explore:

• the changing colours of sea and sky
• movement and rhythm in water
• shapes and textures in rock and shoreline
• reflections, shadows and changing light
• the atmosphere and feeling of being beside the sea

You'll use your own photographs alongside direct observation to gather visual material in your sketchbook.

Rather than trying to draw a perfect seascape, we'll look for details that can be translated into colour, shape, texture and expressive marks.

Reflection & Lunch Break

A quiet pause to rest, reflect and look back through your photographs and observations.

We'll identify the colours, shapes, movements and moments that have caught your attention and consider what could become the starting point for your painting.

Please bring a packed lunch.

Studio Painting Session (Afternoon)

Back in the studio, your coastal observations become the foundation for an abstract painting.

You will be guided through:

• translating water into expressive marks and movement
• finding a personal coastal colour palette
• simplifying horizon, rock, water and sky into abstract shapes
• layering colour to create atmosphere and depth
• responding to changing light and weather
• developing texture, contrast and balance
• refining your painting into a finished piece

The aim isn't to recreate the view.

It's to bring something of the coast — its energy, colour, light and atmosphere — into your painting.

Each participant leaves with a finished artwork inspired by the coastal landscape.
