Colour, place and the art of returning

I am a contemporary painter based in Pembrokeshire, Wales, working from the landscape I was born and raised in. My work explores the relationship between place, memory and perception and how the places we know become part of who we are.

Using vibrant colour, geometric forms and layers of paint, I create paintings that sit somewhere between observation and abstraction. The familiar elements of the Pembrokeshire coast, from the sea and cliffs to winding paths, hidden coves and changing light, are reimagined through memory and feeling. Rather than simply painting what I see, I am interested in capturing something of the atmosphere and emotion a place holds.

After a career in commercial interiors, I returned to Pembrokeshire and began developing my painting practice from my garden studio. Coming back to a landscape I have always known has changed the way I see it. Familiar places take on new meanings, memories shift and things that once seemed ordinary begin to look different. This sense of returning has become an important part of my work.

Colour is at the heart of everything I create. I use it to express emotion, create energy and bring a fresh perspective to the familiar. Geometric shapes give the paintings structure, while layers and painterly marks allow room for movement, imperfection and discovery.

My paintings are rooted in Pembrokeshire, but they are also about the personal connections we all have with places. The landscapes we remember, the places we return to and the feelings they bring back are different for everyone. I hope my work leaves room for people to find something of their own in it.

Colour + Canvas has grown from my painting practice and my love of bringing colour into everyday life. Alongside original paintings and limited edition prints, the collection includes thoughtfully designed homeware and stationery, all created with the same love of colour, texture and making. I also run creative workshops where people can slow down, experiment with colour and enjoy making something with their own hands.

Based in Pembrokeshire, Colour + Canvas brings together my artwork, products and creative experiences, all inspired by a belief that a little more colour and creativity can make everyday life feel that bit more personal.
