Autumn Coastal Creative Day - Texture, weather and the changing landscape
When: Saturday 2 October 2027 | 10:00am – 4:00pm
(arrival from 9:45am for a welcome tea or coffee before we begin)
Duration: Full-day immersive experience (approx. 6 hours)
Location: The Studio of Delyth Williams & a local landscape location], Pembrokeshire
Group size: Maximum 3 participants
(intimate, guided creative experience with individual support throughout)
The Experience
Studio Introduction & Autumn observation (Morning)
We begin in the studio with a relaxed introduction to the day before heading outside to explore the changing autumn landscape.
Through gentle, guided exercises you will explore:
• deeper seasonal colour and muted tones
• texture in bark, stone, leaves, grasses and weathered surfaces
• marks created by rain, wind and time
• patterns, traces and fragments found in the landscape
• the feeling and atmosphere of the changing season
You'll use your own photographs alongside direct observation to gather visual material in your sketchbook.
We'll look closely at surfaces and details rather than trying to draw complete objects or landscapes.
Reflection & lunch break
A quiet pause to rest, reflect and look back through your photographs and observations.
We'll identify the textures, colours and marks that interest you most and begin considering how they might become layers within your painting.
Please bring a packed lunch.
Studio painting session (Afternoon)
Back in the studio, your observations become the foundation for a layered abstract painting.
You will be guided through:
• translating natural textures into expressive marks
• building a painting through layers of colour and surface
• experimenting with reveal and conceal
• adding, removing and disrupting layers
• creating depth through texture, tone and contrast
• using photographs as a reference without copying them
• refining the painting and deciding when it is finished
We'll explore how earlier marks can remain visible beneath later layers, allowing the painting to build a sense of history, weather and change. Each participant leaves with a finished artwork inspired by the autumn landscape.
Materials
All materials are provided, including:
• sketchbook
• drawing and mark-making materials
• paints and inks for studio work
• brushes, palette knives, scrapers and texture tools
• papers and painting surfaces
• studio equipment and aprons
You are welcome to bring your own sketchbook if you prefer.

Your photographs are an important part of the process, so please bring a phone or camera you can use throughout the day.
Non-Refundable Booking Policy
All workshop bookings are non-refundable. Due to limited spaces and preparation costs, refunds cannot be offered for cancellations or no-shows. Bookings may be transferred to another person with prior notice. If the workshop is cancelled by myself, a full refund or alternative date will be offered.
